Getting started

Learn what Forumera is, how forums are structured, and how to get oriented quickly.

Last updated: 12/31/2025

Forumera is a modern forum platform designed for communities, courses, and teams. It gives you structured, long-lived discussions instead of noisy chat, with tools for summarising knowledge and keeping content discoverable over time.

You can think of a forum as a dedicated space for a specific community or use case: a customer community, an internal knowledge base, or a course cohort.

Who this guide is for

This page is written for both forum members and admins. If you're just joining a forum, start with how to browse, read, and post. If you're running a forum, pay attention to how forums are structured and how members experience them.

The basic building blocks

At a high level, Forumera is made of:

Forums

Top-level spaces dedicated to a specific community or organization.

Categories

High-level groupings inside a forum, often used for themes or workflows.

Boards

Individual areas where threads live (like "channels" but structured).

Threads

Focused discussions about a single topic, containing posts from members.

You'll see these concepts reflected across the UI: the homepage of a forum, the left-hand navigation, the thread view, and search.

Public vs private forums

Forums can be configured with different visibility levels:

Public forums

Anyone with the link can read some or all content, and search engines may index public threads.

Private forums

Content is only visible to members with permission.

Mixed visibility

Individual boards and threads can have different visibility levels within the same forum.

As a member, you'll only see what your role permits. As an admin, you can design a structure that keeps sensitive content private while leaving onboarding and announcements more open.
