Joining forums

Learn how to join forums, accept invites, and understand what happens when you become a member.

Joining forums

Forumera supports both open and invite-based membership. This page explains how you join forums and what changes when you become a member.

Ways to join

Depending on how a forum is configured, you might join by:

  • Clicking a join button visible on the forum's public pages.
  • Accepting an invite that someone sends you.
  • Being added directly by an admin (for example, for an internal team forum).

Once you are a member, you'll typically gain access to additional boards, threads, and features based on your role.

Open vs invite-only forums

Forums can be:

  • Open – anyone with an account can join, sometimes after answering a few onboarding questions.
  • Closed / invite-only – you must be invited or approved by an admin.

For open forums, the join button is usually visible on the forum home or in the navigation. For invite-only forums, membership is primarily managed through invites and admin tools.

Accepting invites

When you receive an invite:

  1. You'll see it in your invites inbox under messages.
  2. The invite will explain what you are being invited to (forum, board, or role).
  3. You can accept or decline.

Accepting may change:

  • Which forums you see in your account.
  • Which boards and threads become visible.
  • What actions you can take (for example, posting, moderating, or configuring settings).

Leaving or changing membership

Depending on forum settings:

  • You may be able to leave a forum via a membership control in the UI.
  • Admins can revoke membership or change your role if needed.

Leaving a forum typically removes it from your dashboard and hides its content. Your past posts remain for context, unless the forum has specific policies around post removal.
