Key Forumera terms and concepts explained.
Forum terminology is loose. One team's board is another team's channel; one platform's category is another's section. The terms below are how Forumera uses them, but the framing applies broadly: when you and your team agree on what a category is, decisions about the structure of a forum stop being arguments about words.
Each term has its own page with a fuller definition, examples of how it shows up in a running forum, and related concepts. The most useful pages are the ones for terms you think you already understand. The differences in nuance are where most onboarding confusion comes from.
Core concepts

An individual message inside a thread, written with the editor and stored as part of a long-lived conversation.

Membership & roles
A signed-in user who belongs to a forum, with roles and permissions that control what they can see and do.
A member with full control over a forum’s configuration, structure, membership and advanced tools.
A member focused on keeping conversations healthy and on-topic by handling reports and acting on content.
A named bundle of permissions assigned to members that controls what they can see and do in a forum.
