Browsing & navigation
This page explains how to move around a Forumera forum as a member: how to find the right area, open threads, and keep track of what matters to you.
Forum home
Each forum has a home page that gives you a high-level overview of what is happening. Depending on how the forum is configured, you might see:
- A list of categories and boards.
- A stream of recent threads and posts (via components like the forum home activity panel).
- Highlighted content such as canon summaries or announcements.
From here you can drill down into the parts of the forum that are relevant to you.
Categories and boards
Inside a forum, content is structured into:
- Categories – high-level groupings (for example: "Announcements", "Support", "Course weeks").
- Boards – individual places where threads live.
Typical navigation flow:
- Start on the forum home.
- Scan the categories to understand the structure.
- Click into a board that matches what you are looking for.
Boards often have short descriptions that clarify their purpose (e.g. "Ask any question about the product" or "Week 1 discussions").
Boards and thread lists
When you open a board, you'll see a list of threads, usually sorted by recent activity. Thread lists show:
- The thread title.
- Who started it and when.
- When it was last updated.
- Sometimes extra metadata like number of replies or labels.
You can change how threads are ordered using sorting controls (for example, by latest reply or by creation date).
Opening threads
Clicking a thread takes you to the thread view, where you can:
- Read all posts in order.
- Jump to the latest unread post.
- Scroll through the history and see who replied when.
The thread view is optimised for reading long-form discussion rather than chat-style noise.
Search and discovery
Many forums expose a search entry point in the navigation. Search lets you:
- Find threads by title and content.
- Filter by forum, board, or other criteria depending on configuration.
Search is the fastest way to find existing answers before starting a new thread. It also helps you rediscover older but still relevant discussions and canonical summaries.
