AI features

How thread recaps, moderation triage, drafting tools, and the AI credit system work in Forumera.

AI features

Forumera includes a small set of AI-powered tools that help members catch up on long discussions, help forum owners draft and moderate, and turn good threads into lasting summaries. They are paid for with AI credits, a top-up balance per user. Credits never expire.

Where to manage credits

All AI features and your current balance live under AI credits in the dashboard sidebar, or directly at /dashboard/billing/credits.

AI credits

Credits are the universal currency for every AI feature. You buy them in packs through Stripe; each AI action deducts credits from your balance.

Packs

| Pack | Credits | Price | |------|---------|-------| | Starter | 100 | $5 | | Standard | 500 | $20 | | Pro | 2,000 | $60 |

Click any pack on the credits dashboard to start a Stripe checkout. Credits land in your balance immediately after payment.

What credits cost

| Feature | Cost | Who pays | |---------|------|----------| | Thread recap | 10 credits | Whoever clicks generate | | Catch-me-up recap | 3 credits | The reader | | Post draft assist | 5 credits | The member drafting the reply | | Auto-draft canon summary | 5 credits | The owner / mod drafting | | Weekly forum digest email | 10 credits per send | The forum owner | | AI moderation triage (per scored report) | 1 credit | The forum owner |

Pricing is data-driven and may be tuned over time without notice. The credits dashboard always shows the current cost.

If a generation fails for any reason (the model errored, the thread was empty, etc.), the credits are automatically refunded.

Thread recaps

A recap is a structured AI summary of a single thread, with:

  • A 2-4 sentence neutral overview
  • Key points
  • Decisions or agreements
  • Open questions still in play

Recaps appear at the top of every thread, above the thread's posts. Anyone with read access can see a recap once it has been generated — only the person who clicks Generate pays the credits. If new posts arrive after the recap was generated, the panel shows a Refresh button so you can regenerate at the same cost.

Long threads

For threads with hundreds of posts, the recap is built from the first 50 plus the most recent 150 posts. This keeps cost predictable while still capturing the thread's overall arc.

Catch-me-up recap

When you sign in to a thread you've visited before and there are new posts since your last visit, a "Catch me up" banner appears at the top. Click it to get a 2-3 sentence summary plus 3-6 bullet highlights covering only the posts you missed.

  • Personal: each user gets their own catch-up scoped to their own visit history.
  • Cheaper than a full recap (3 credits) because the input is smaller.
  • Updates your "last visited" timestamp so the next catch-up only covers what's truly new.
  • Free if there are no new posts — the banner just doesn't appear.

Post draft assist

In the reply editor on any thread, the Draft with AI button opens a prompt box. Tell the AI what you want to say in plain language, and it returns a markdown draft you can edit before posting.

  • Useful for long-running roleplay threads, technical Q&A, or any reply where you have an idea but want help getting the words right.
  • The AI sees the most recent 25 posts of the thread plus your prompt, so the draft fits the existing voice and context.
  • 5 credits per draft. Failed generations are refunded.
  • Always edit the draft before posting. Treat the output as a starting point, not a final reply.
Roleplay forums

The drafter notices the language and register of the thread. If posts are a mix of Finnish and English, or written in-character, the draft follows the same convention.

Auto-draft canon summary

For owners and moderators, the canon summary form has a Draft with AI button next to the textarea. It produces a 3-5 paragraph prose summary of the whole thread that you can edit before publishing.

  • 5 credits per draft.
  • Output is plain prose in the thread's language. Neutral, factual, no headings or markdown.
  • The draft is a starting point — always read and edit before saving.
  • Pairs naturally with the existing canonical-summary feature, where a single distilled summary lives at the top of an archived thread.

Weekly forum digest email

Forum owners can opt in to a weekly recap email that goes to every forum member with email updates on. To enable: forum settings → Weekly digest emails → toggle on.

  • Sent every Monday at 09:00 UTC.
  • Summarises the most active threads of the past 7 days, top 6 by reply count.
  • 10 credits per send, paid by the forum owner. If you're out of credits, the run is skipped and retried the following week.
  • Members can turn off all forum email updates from their account settings.
  • Recipients see a single email per forum, with thread titles, AI-written summaries, and direct links.

Moderation triage

For forums you own, every reported post is automatically scored on a 0–100 severity scale by an AI model. Reports show up in your moderation queue with a colour-coded badge plus a one-line explanation and a recommended action (remove / warn / review / dismiss).

  • The queue at /dashboard/moderation defaults to severity-sorted so the worst reports are at the top.
  • Scoring runs automatically about a minute after each report is filed. You don't click anything to trigger it.
  • Each scored report deducts 1 credit from your (the owner's) balance.
  • If you run out of credits, new reports are flagged as awaiting triage instead of being scored. As soon as you top up, scoring picks up automatically.
  • Reports without a scorable post (user-only reports, thread-only reports without a post body) are skipped and shown without a severity badge.

You always make the final decision on each report. The AI's role is to surface what to look at first, not to act on its own.

Real-time alerts

When a report scores 85 or higher, you get an immediate email with the severity, category, AI reasoning, and recommended action. This is the case where seconds matter; you shouldn't have to be checking the queue manually.

Daily and weekly emails

  • A daily digest at 09:00 UTC summarises mid-severity (50–84) reports awaiting your review, one email per forum. The email is suppressed when there's nothing to summarise.
  • A weekly nudge is sent if reports are stuck waiting because of an empty credit balance. Throttled to once every 7 days per forum.

Privacy and accuracy

  • AI summaries and drafts can be wrong or miss nuance. Always check the source before taking action based on a recap, and always edit drafts before posting or publishing.
  • Reported post content is sent to the model only for scoring. We do not retain conversation transcripts on the AI provider.
  • AI features are off by default per forum. Forum owners turn them on in forum settings → AI features. When off, members see no recap, catch-up, draft or NPC prompts at all, and the weekly digest is skipped.
  • When on, AI features are opt-in per use: nothing is generated until you click the relevant button. The exception is moderation triage, which runs automatically on reports filed in forums you own — but you can disable it implicitly by letting your credit balance run out.
