Admin

An admin is a member with full control over a forum’s configuration and structure. Admins are responsible for how the forum is organised, who has access and which tools are available.

What admins can do in Forumera

Exact capabilities depend on your setup, but admins typically can:

  • Create, rename and archive forums.
  • Configure categories, boards and tags.
  • Set visibility (public vs private) at forum and board level.
  • Manage roles and permissions.
  • Invite new members and handle join requests.
  • Configure integration details such as domains and single sign‑on.

Admins see additional screens in the dashboard, including analytics and moderation overview pages.

Admin vs moderator vs member

  • Members participate in discussions and may have limited extra rights (for example posting links or embedding media).
  • Moderators manage content and behaviour: they handle reports, hide or move posts, and lock threads.
  • Admins manage the system itself: structure, roles, membership and high‑level policy.

In small communities the same person may wear all three hats, but it helps to keep the concepts separate.

Good admin practices

  • Start simple and iterate. Design a minimal structure and permission model, then refine as real usage patterns emerge.
  • Document policies. Write down how moderation works, what reporting means and when bans are used so you can be consistent.
  • Delegate with roles. When the community grows, create roles for moderators, trusted members or local organisers instead of trying to do everything yourself.

Risks and safeguards

Because admins can make large changes quickly, consider:

  • Keeping the number of admins small and intentional.
  • Using separate roles for day‑to‑day moderation vs full admin powers.
  • Reviewing admin activity periodically, especially in multi‑organisation setups.
  • Member – the base status for people who belong to the forum.
  • Moderator – a member focused on content and community health, not settings.
  • Role – the mechanism that grants admin powers to specific accounts.
