Tag
A tag is a lightweight label you attach to threads to show status or type, such as “Question”, “Bug” or “Solved”, cutting across boards and categories.
Tag
A tag is a lightweight label you attach to threads to make them easier to scan, filter and understand at a glance. Tags usually express the status or type of a thread, such as “Question”, “Bug”, “Solved”, “Guide” or “Announcement”.
What tags do in Forumera
Tags add a second organising dimension on top of categories and boards:
- Categories group boards by broad area (“Support”, “Learning”, “Announcements”).
- Boards separate conversations by topic or workflow.
- Tags mark threads with attributes that cut across those structures.
For example, you might have a single “Support” board where threads use tags like “Open”, “In progress” and “Solved”. Members can then quickly see which issues still need attention, even if they all live in one place.
How tags appear in the UI
In Forumera, tags typically show up:
- As small pills next to thread titles in board and search views.
- In filters or quick‑filter chips that let you show only threads with certain tags.
- In the thread creation or edit form, where authors can choose one or more tags from the allowed set.
Admins can configure which tags exist and where they can be used. In some forums, tags are global; in others, different boards have different tag sets.
Designing a useful tag set
Good tag systems share a few traits:
- Short and clear labels. One or two words people already use out loud.
- Limited number of tags. A small, well‑chosen set beats a long list nobody remembers.
- Consistent meaning. Everyone should understand what “Solved” or “In review” implies for behaviour.
Common categories of tags include:
- Status – Open, In progress, Solved, Archived.
- Type – Question, Bug, Idea, Guide, Announcement.
- Audience – Staff only, Students, Mentors, Customers.
Avoid letting tags drift into being synonyms for boards. If a tag is used on almost every thread in a board, consider whether it actually needs to be a separate board or category.
